Urgent - Malaria Outbreak in Binayuyo

In one of the villages I work in the Philippines we've had a serious outbreak of Malaria. Over 20 families have been diagnosed with having Malaria in the village of Binayuyo. I along with the Mission Love Seeds group are working on ways to stop and prevent further spread of the disease. As I gather more information I will post more and hopefully have some solutions.

We did get a doctor to the village to begin some treatment and diagnosing of the outbreak.

I am looking in to buying mosquito nets for the families. The cost is $10 per net. If you are
interested in helping call me or send an email. More to come...

Here is an email from Fely, MLS coordinator, in the Philippines.

Just Glad to write this...

I guess today's post will be a bit different.

At 3:00 p.m. I was sitting in the turn lane on Hwy 98 in Destin. I had looked down to get something out of the center console when I heard a huge crash. I looked up to see a dump truck turn over and begin sliding toward me.

Everything happened so fast it's hard to describe. At first I wasn't sure what was happening because of the unusual sight of seeing a truck on it's side coming toward me. I really couldn't even judge how far away it was.

The driver gets out of truck.
You can see how close my
car was.

After a second or so I realized that I was probably going to get hit and prepared for the impact. Somehow though it never hit me. The dynamics of the motion were so strange I couldn't figure out what happened because the truck should have hit me.

It stopped about two feet short of my hood. I grabbed my phone and jumped out running to the cab and dialing 911 at the same time. The driver was inside the cab trying to undo his seat belt. The driver's seat was on the top part of the truck so he had to undo his belt and fall to the passengers side.

You can see my tire tracks from
where my car was sitting.

I never got through to 911 and figured many others were already calling and stopped trying. We had to get the driver to turn off the truck as it was still running and fuel was leaking out under the cab.

The driver climbed out the top and other than being shaken seemed to be OK. Now I had a chance to see what happened.

The truck was carrying a crushed sand and gravel mixture. The sand dump out of the truck so fast that it went under my tires and pushed my car backwards, hence why I did not get hit.

The truck was turning in front of me when it collided with a small sport utility vehicle. I'm not sure who was in the wrong but someone ran a light and the dump truck was going too fast to make the turn. It hit the small SUV and that's when I looked up.

The people in the small SUV were also shaken but OK. They were hit in the very rear luckily. Had it been in the center the truck would have crushed the small SUV.

After moving my car I
stood on top and took
a picture

I spent an hour waiting to get a statement but didn't mind because it could have turned out a lot worse.

Anyway I threw this into the blog because a few feet further I might not be writing at all.
I am thankful...

Earl

Point to Ponder - Nothing is Random

Today's Point to Ponder!

Nothing is Random...Randomness is a lack of knowledge.

If you think about it, anything that you consider random, is simply not having enough information to find the result.

Example:
You may consider raindrops randomly hit you car windshield. However if you knew the speed of you car, wind, size of raindrop, humidity, etc. you could figure out which drops would hit your car.

Think of something random and see if it actually is random.

Points to ponder are little thought nuggets I have devised over the years.
Enjoy!

The Boxing Match

During a walk on the Filipino military base in Jolo I came across several boys boxing. It was late afternoon and the sun was setting behind the huge palms surrounding the base.

On the tarmac in front of the old Huey choppers boys were having a boxing match. I kept my distance trying not to be noticed so that I could get a few pictures.

As I got closer the bots noticed me and the boxing grew more intense. They both wanted to show what they had for the camera. I entertained them and kept photographing. Interestingly enough another boy was acting as referee.

They continued for about 10 minutes and I gave them an applause. They both held each others hand up for a parting shot.
